How to do Burns Night 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer
Gie her a haggis!

It’s fair to say that Rabbie Burns knows how to start a feast, and whether you partake in the haggis or get involved in a Ceilidh, we’ve got a step by step guide of how to mark the birth of Scotland’s most celebrated poet.

1. Gather your pals

Burns Night is a time to come together. January can be a long month but after 4 weeks of post Christmas hibernation, 25th January is the perfect time to gather your charaid. Swap the bottomless brunch for Burns Night this year!

2. Raise a dram

Who says Dry January really has to last the whole month? Not us and not Robert Burns. As he famously said: “O thou, my muse! guid auld Scotch drink!” which loosely translates to “I bloody love whisky”. There’s nothing more warming than a good drink with friends!

3. Address the haggis

We know it’s not for everyone but the man has a poem about it, so it would be rude to ignore the haggis in the room! A moment to read the words of Burns and remember the man we’ve come together to celebrate. Grab your tatties and neeps too, it’s a long poem but a great one!

4. Don your tartan

Luckily for us tartan is very much in fashion at the moment. So whether you go full Celt and get your kilt out or don a Damson Madder co-ord, there’s a tartan for everyone. In fact, did you know Rabbie has his very own? He is such a trendsetter.

5. Dance the night away

We’re taking it back to 1776. Fiddlers? Check. Reeling? Check. Ghillie shoes? Optional. Ceilidhs are a must of any Burns Night celebration. A Scottish tradition of dancing, you can bet that Burns was Wicking the Willow and Flying the Scotsman at any given occasion.

6. Auld Lang Syne

There is only one way to round off the perfect Burns Night and that is with a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne. Arguably his most famous poem, lock hands with those next to you and sing out for all to hear! If only Burns could see us now!

What a night, what a man!

Want to experience all of this but don’t know how? Lucky for you, Fabal Beerhall is hosting not just one but two Burns Night celebrations featuring all of the above (tartan optional!) After their sell out year in 2024, we are back in a bigger venue with a live ceilidh band and caller on 23rd and 24th January.

The more tickets you buy the cheaper they are so, just as Rabbie wanted, gather your pals and get down to the Fabal Beerhall Burns Night Celebration Ceilidh. Book now!
